Singing Tuition

When coming to me as a beginner, we have a few lessons to get to know each other and I also work to get an understanding of what you want to gain from your lessons.

My singing lessons are structured around my student’s preferences for learning. I teach all styles of singing from Popular Songs to Musical Theatre to Classical. My students have won various awards and singing prizes and I particularly enjoy preparing them for external performances outside of school. I also coach students for auditions and competitions and two of my students have been successful in gaining a place in the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain.

Singing is also great exercise. A lot of my students are in choirs at schools and are often awarded the lead parts in school productions or external productions with drama clubs in and around the Norfolk & Suffolk area.

I enjoy teaching all styles of singing, and I teach vocal technique to all my singers, and I tend to teach more musical theatre than any other style. However, the majority of my students take their singing exams with Trinity College, London and some of them like to work purely with Musical Theatre, so I tend to teach the University of West London (LCM) syllabus for those students. However, I don’t just teach exam material, the lessons are based around technique and general performance and gaining confidence when singing.

We work on all aspects of singing technique including vocal warm up, posture, breathing, vibrato, diction and using the head and chest voices. I have had a lot of students come to me to learn another instrument and then have decided to have a few singing lessons and often find that these lessons give them a massive confidence boost both generally and at school.

I teach mostly in the Norwich area but I also cover Great Yarmouth & Lowestoft and my lessons vary in length from 30 minutes to an hour. For more information or to book a lesson with with me call 07967 023 568 or email [email protected].

Aural Test Training

In preparation for the ABRSM exams, I do some singing practice with my students to prepare them for their aural tests which is a requirement for face to face exams.

Trinity College do not have singing in their aural tests at the moment, but ABRSM require singing in their aural tests from Grade 1 through to Grade 8. This can be very helpful and useful preparation for these exams.

I also request that my students purchase the aural test book for the exam syllabus that they are working from as this aids practice at home before the exam.

If students do not wish to sing, then they can hum or play the melodies instead. Some of my students find the aural tests difficult at first, but with some coaching, this can actually help them to relax and gain some confidence.
